. . . Domestic dogs are inherently trainable. A couple of dozen millenia of selective breeding have made them so. Of course some dogs are instinctively more territorial than others — again, selective breeding. And some dogs don't have the traits people think they do, like pit bulls, who are so often demonized in the media but consistently score higher than the average breed in standardized temperament tests. In the end, your dog is largely what you train it to be.
