The Deer Lake man accused of assaulting his common-law spouse and killing her two cats has been sent for psychiatric assessment. Kirk White, who was arrested last week, was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook Monday for a bail hearing. However, legal aid lawyer Lynn Cole presented the court a letter from a psychiatrist, who had spoken with the accused, recommending the assessment.
